Where the ship docks
In Cairns, you will typically walk straight off your ship as most vessels dock at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, located at Trinity Wharf (Wharves 1–3) on the corner of Wharf and Lake Streets. This puts you right in the heart of the city. However, very large ships that cannot navigate the channel must anchor in Twofold Bay and require passengers to take a tender boat to the Yorkey’s Knob Boating Club, which is approximately a 20-minute drive north of the city centre.
The Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal is a beautifully restored heritage wharf shed that provides a modern and comfortable entry point. Inside the air-conditioned terminal, you will find essential facilities including check-in counters, customs and immigration desks, restrooms, and a tourist information meet-and-greet area. While the terminal itself does not house permanent shops or restaurants, its central location means you are only a short stroll away from the cafes and retail hub of the Cairns CBD.
